I read this dilemma over in the Baby Name Wizard discussion forum with interest — the mom of Reverie is stuck on what to name her second daughter. What a fun name Reverie is! Whimsical and sweet, and I love the nicknames Rev and Revi. But yeah — what do you name Reverie’s sister?
Amazingly, there’s actually a semi-famous little girl named Reverie — daughter of the mom who blogs at Girl’s Gone Child (whose name taste I’ve long been swoony over) — and she’s got two sisters with amazingly perfect names (in my opinion): Fable and Boheme. Fable and Boheme! I know Boheme is sometimes called Bo, and she’s the twin of Reverie — Rev and Bo! 😍 And with Fable — and the nickname possibility Fay/Fae — these three have got to be some of the best named sisters I’ve ever come across. (They also have a brother, Archer.)
But of course the mom in the Baby Name Wizard discussion probably shouldn’t consider Boheme or Fable, given how very *owned* they are (and this coming from a person who doesn’t consider it possible to own a name). Do you agree?
Anyway, I was interested in this list of girl names the parents of Fable, Boheme, and Reverie considered and never used:
Colette
Delphine
Echo
Lark
Cricket
Autumn
Clover
Daisy
Dahlia
Zenith
Belle
Luna
Harbor
Paisley
Blythe
Phoenix
Nova
Aura
Marigold
Azure
Lumina
Meadow
Season
Beatrix
Saffron
Valentine
Zephyr
I have to say, none of them hits me in the same way as Fable, Boheme, and Reverie. Zenith, Zephyr, Echo, and Azure come closest I think, but otherwise I think this list — great as so many of the names are, and some of my favorites — doesn’t really fit with the other three girls’ names’ feminity+unusualness. I’d love to know if you disagree!
Anyway, I’ve been working on a list of names I thought would be a good match to Reverie (from the BNW discussion I quite like Haven, Sonnet, Soleil, and Lumen nicked Lulu!), and came up with the following:
Reine (I met a woman recently named Reine, said like “Wren”)
Thaïs (which I suggested over at the BNW)
Vesper
Hero
Starling
Xanthe
Juniper (maybe)
Charis (maybe)
Phaedra
Briseis (thanks to Mandi at A Blog About Miscarriage for turning me on to this name)
Bronte
Rhiannon
What do you think? What names do you think would fit for a sister for Reverie?
Delphine definitely jumped out at me as a great match!

I really like Hero to go with Reverie! I guess it doesn’t sound as magical but it is super bold and different. Valentine is also really great.

How fun! What about:
Tamsin (Tamsin Soleil is dreamy)
Riona (Riona Noelle?)
Davina
Honor/Honora/Honoree
Seraphina
Evening
Charmian
Jardin
Liberty
Allegra
Sonata
It’s harder than it seems to match Reverie’s vibe.

Ok, just throwing these out there… Probably not what she is looking for… Melody, Fantasia, or Poet

So sorry, me again… But Sonata might be a good choice. At least better than my last suggestions 😊

I love this category of names, though I would boldly tuck it in the middle name spot. Here are my suggestions:
Jubilee
Whimsy
Harken
Bliss
Selah
True
Peregrine
Lux
Adore
Chord
Serenity
Evangeline
Journey
Sojourn
Comet

I’m a girlsgonechild reader 🙂 I’m honestly not too keen on Boheme, especially paired with her middle name, but I think Bo is adorable and really suits her. Reverie is my favourite name out of those girls (although again, fable really suits her name), maybe because it’s the most common? I also love her middle name.
I think another french or international name would probably be the best fit, and I don’t think nature names would go so well. Maybe something like Allegra, Anouk, Jemima, Fabienne, Aurora, Paloma, Delphine.

I think a good name for a sister would be Ondine. It’s French and unusual like Reverie.

I was thinking Aurora or Clementine. Perhaps Sylvie or Solange?
The Serenity and Sojourn suggestions from above are fabulous; I think they fit the spirit of Reverie well.

Been thinking about this more – if you want to match Boheme but not copy, what about Bonhomie? Euphrasie/Euphrasia might also be suitable, if you have an extroverted child.

I used to read that blog, mostly while she was pregnant because I was so interested in what she would name the twins. I guess I feel (felt?) like Fable and archer were just way normal than Boheme and Reverie! Ha. Reverie is a hard one to match. My first thoughts were Larken, Azalea, and Arbor. But I’m not quite sure those are right either. I wonder if the mother liked the rhythm of the name or the meaning? Oh maybe something like Indigo? This is a fun one to think about 😁

Cadence…Cady for short. Both are music terms, without being too too obvious.

I’ve seen the name Remember used in real life a few times. One person who used it chose it as a reminder of a relative who had died. I think the child’s middle name was after the deceased relative. Remi could be a nickname. On the other hand, I think a name that distinctive could be a problem. There are times when it is better to be able to blend into the crowd.

My first thought was Lux! I see someone else suggested it too – so good!!!!! I also like India,Cosima, Adora, Pearl, Louella, Jewel – some of those are based on meaning, some just on sound. Although if I were brave enough to use Reverie I’d probably just go with something like Story, Soliloquy, or Whimsy (all three are on my guilty pleasure list 🙂 ).

Oh and Ottilie! Just because I love it but think it’s too “out there” for most people, but if they use’d Reverie, then I doubt Ottilie is too much!

Louella is my favorite for Reverie’s sister based solely on sound (which if I’m being honest, is important to me – not AS important as meaning, but… more important than it should be, maybe? ….).

that’s interesting because the reverie from the blog has lux as a middle name, and her older sister has luella as a middle name (brother and other sister’s middles are sage and shalom, btw).

Kept forgetting to comment but I thought Mabel or Maybelle–I might be making this name up(?), I’m thinking pronounced like a double name, equal emphasis on both may and bell sounds–would be nice (quite similar to Fable but a different feel, less whimsical more feminine perhaps).

Maybelle is indeed a Mabel variant! I would say it like you do too, lovely!

I love Echo with Reverie. I also thought of Hero and Poet! (I have known little girls named both of those!) I also thought of India. There’s a photographer I follow on IG who has a little India and her photos & lifestyle are so dreamy, it brings to mind the quality of Reverie.
We also know a family with a Haven, Lyric, and Seren (for serendipity), so maybe one of those?
Of the names listed above, Evening, Aurora, and Sojourn really stand out to me.

Still loving this post! Carmel or even Lourdes would go well with Reverie (likewise Lisieux). Corinne. Some form of Sibyl? Musette or Andante? Thames? Cam? I would look at names of other famous rivers. Even Moselle could work.
