Great article! My sister has a compound first name (An@lisa) so my mom decided to omit a middle name. I have one and actually go by my middle name. My sister hated not having a middle name! In HS I tried to convince her to pick her own – I was rooting for Imogen. Alas, she simply started using a C. as a middle initial (mom’s maiden name). Ironically, she married a man with the same last name so she couldn’t slide her last name into her open middle name spot. I’m ashamed to say I can’t recall her confirmation name. But I know she didn’t start using it as her middle name.
