The power’s out! And posting from my phone makes me want to tear my hair out. So until tomorrow I’ll leave you with this question: What examples can you give in American culture (places, products, etc.) of saints’ names or references to Jesus or Mary, especially those who origins have been mostly forgotten? For example, Sophie the Giraffe (as I posted about the other day), or the city of Los Angeles (originally named for Our Lady).
Apparently Santa Fe, New Mexico is named after Saint Faith, an early Christian martyr. I suppose it also could be named for the “Holy [Catholic] Faith.”

Ooh yeah, that’s a good one. I assumed it referred to the “Holy Faith,” interesting about St. Faith!

I looked up some more info about it and more likely is “Holy Faith.” The official name of the city supposedly is translated “Royal City of the Holy Faith of Saint Francis of Assisi” or something like that, but in my 5 min of research I couldn’t find that on any official website. Anyhoo. I like the Saint Faith idea better. 🙂
